ADHD Misdiagnosed In Nearly 1 Million U.S. Kids Say Researchers

Prevent Disease
October 29, 2010

Two studies published recently suggest there could be something wrong with the way ADHD is diagnosed in young children in the US, one found that nearly 1 million kids are potentially misdiagnosed just because they are the youngest in their kindergarten year, with the youngest in class twice as likely to be on stimulant medication, while the other study confirmed that whether children were born just before or just after the kindergarten cutoff date significantly affected their chances of being diagnosed with ADHD.

Papers on both studies by US researchers are in press, to be published in the Journal of Health Economics, the first being a corrected proof that was first available online in June, and the other appeared online on 4 August.

In the first paper, Dr Todd Elder, assistant professor of economics at Michigan State University, looked at a sample of nearly 12,000 children from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study Kindergarten Cohort, which is funded by the National Center for Education Statistics. He analysed the difference in ADHD diagnosis and medication rates between the youngest and the oldest children in a kindergarten grade.

Union Mob Surrounds We Are Change Member for Heckling Clinton

Former President Bill Clinton can be seen in the background campaigning for Rep. Kanjorski as numerous thugs in yellow shirts from a local union surround and intimidate a member of We Are Change.

In this video from a rally in Pennsylvania, We Are Change member Anthony Antonello is literally surrounded by a gang of union thugs in yellow shirts who physically intimidated him and hurled insults after he heckled former President Bill Clinton during a stump speech for Rep. Kanjorski. One of the union members tells him, “You looking for trouble, you found it,” as the group circles around him. A woman can be heard shouting, “The Secret Service has your number,” as stern faces stared him down. Various others in yellow shirts added, “Nobody wants you here,” and “I didn’t come to hear you,” as well as some other language.

A reporter (see video) spoke to Antonello after he left the building. She told him she had witnessed what had happened, commenting that the union members had surrounded him “real fast.” Antonello appeared to be alone and clearly felt uncomfortable with their actions by the end.

Watch the video. Warning: Some offensive language used by some of the union thugs.

He had disrupted Clinton by shouting “End the Fed” and otherwise interjecting issues related to the out-of-control printing of inflationary paper dollars by the the Federal Reserve, a private bank with the coloration of being a government entity. The crowd reacted to Antonello’s statements not only with disapproval, but with a threatening display of group force. He was essentially intimidated out of the building, and also claims he was kicked in the leg. By contrast, no action was taken against the woman who repeatedly shouted, “Bush’s fault.”

Ironically, Rep. Kanjorski has previously admitted he hopes to avoid the public, stopping appearances at town-hall meetings and commenting that he didn’t want to encourage “nuts to hit me with a camera.” Congressmen are supposed to face their critics and constituents alike, and citizen-journalism is part of the backbone of the spirit of this nation.

Mainstream Media Now Begins Reporting on BPA Dangers After Denying Previous Evidence

The mainstream media has just recently began reporting on the dangers of Bispehnol A (BPA), despite evidence that has been available for some time that links it to serious conditions such as infertility. A five-year study has just been released that confirms the link between BPA and infertility, finding it severely damages sperm health.

This is not surprising if you have been following the findings of numerous past studies, which have linked BPA to a host of nasty conditions. Health conditions such as obesity, and developmental problems in young girls were among the ailments developed as a result of  BPA exposure.

What is worse is that BPA has found its way into numerous products, such as soup cans and plastic packaging. We also reported that BPA was found in dental fillings and sealants, and that the media would downplay the negative effects of the substance. Patients were reassured that the BPA was nearly harmless, and the benefit of the toxic fillings far outweighed the risk of BPA exposure.

The article from USA Today went on to proclaim that the effects of BPA are unknown, and that the fillings and sealants did not contain high amounts of the substance: “Doctors don’t know how much BPA is absorbed into the body, however, or what its effects might be, Fleisch says. But dental materials probably cause far less BPA exposure than other consumer goods, such as plastic bottles and the linings of metal cans.”
